How To: Change the Music on your Xbox 360 or PS3
May 1, 2013
“Is it okay to play Call of Duty?”
I’m asked that question quite often after my presentation on video games. Instead of giving a simple "yes" or "no" answer, I challenge both youth and adults to spend time in God's Word to help find the answer.
My goal is to teach them to think critically and analyze these games and then to prayerfully consider what games they will play and how much time they should devote to such activities. Learning to identify and critique all video game content is crucial to making a Godly decision on this popular pastime.
While playing Madden Football on the Xbox, I discovered something very interesting about what was playing the background.
Madden, NBA 2K, and many other popular sports video games, feature background music of hard rock or rap. Whether or not you enjoy that genre of music, you’ll find many of the lyrics very concerning. For example:
“I see your dirty face hide behind your collar.
What is done in vain, truth is hard to swallow.
So you pray to God to justify the way.
You live a lie, live a lie, live a lie.”- “Let it Rock” (Madden 11)
I decided that I didn't want this music playing in the room with my young children listening in. I decided to switch out the music with something more appropriate for my family. Did you know that you can do that to? Here are some simple steps to change the music on your Xbox 360 or PS3.
1. Insert a music CD into your Xbox 360. Burn it to your Xbox 360 hard drive.
2. Insert game of your choice. Press the Xbox Guide button on yourcontroller while playing.
3. Select “Music”. Choose your album and song.
4. Resume Playing.
1. Insert a CD into your PS3
2. Press the triangle button on the audio CD.
3. Navigate to “import button”.
4. Not all games support custom soundtrack feature. Check the game manual to determine if the game you are playing supports the custom soundtrack feature.
5. Activate the custom soundtrack feature by navigating through the game’s options screens.
There is also a way to load custom music from your iPod or other mobile music device. Refer to the system instructions manual or do a google search to determine if your MP3 player is compatible.
Not all games will allow you to load custom music, but I was able to load my favorite Christian music on my Xbox 360.
Always remember to educate yourself — and critique all video game content. Spend time in God's Word and make a decision as a family.
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things arehonest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”
